yesterday we also met with the travel agent to pick up our tickets to chengdu and lhasa!... the smaller towns are definitely more helpful in terms of helping us arrange for a permit and flight out to tibet... so tomorrow lisa and i will be flying to chengdu...! whoop!...
otherwise, i am getting better at crossing the roads!... i don't know how i could have forgotten the insane asian drivers are from my time in malaysia... haven't had an incident like beijing where my face literally would have been implanted onto the roads... lisa and i haven't been barked at lately either... i haven't had to use a squatter yet thank god!... mainly because i know when to limit my water intake and from the scary amount my bladder can hold... my ankle is currently in the process of healing - i cut up lisa's pajamas to use as a tensor... went to a pharmacy in beijing after an acrobatic show - which by the way was amazing - and bought some chinese oil that my mom used on me every time i sustained a bruise from my earlier years ... actually it was a chinese herbal store rather than a pharmacy - the ladies there kept pushing me to get some oral pills for my sprained ankle... and after like five minutes or haggling and me refusing - they moved on another box of pills... and when i refused that and insisted on an ointment - they displayed such rudeness and disdain for me...!! maybe because the ointment was only seven rmb... where the pills were upwards to eighty rmb... so i paid in all one dollar bills... and they weren't happy!... i am slowly getting use to living out of a backpack!... and wearing the same clothes like two days in a row... err ewww!
anyway, i hope everyone is well! i do really miss you all!!!... love eva.
Lisa here. Yes sorry for not posting for a while. It really is hard to get internet in Beijing for some reason and the Lonely Planet book said there was a great one here in Guilin and here we are! It's about 1.5 yuans for the hour tho its very slow. Tests my patience as I an used to super duper fast connection. As for the photos...it's so slow using this Travelblog that I have posted the photos in Facebook...so please get facebook lol I uploaded as much as I can. We check out tomorrow and have some time to kill before heading to the airport and leaving for Chendu so we're hoping to hop on the internet for a while.
Guilin is so nice! Reminds me of Miri Malaysia. They have a great nite life here...no drinking or rowsdiness but people hustling and bustling at markets and chatting and eating...very comfy place. Defiately a good find! We met a couple during our tour to the terraces yesterday saying how this place has changed from when they were here 10 years ago. Things are waling distance and you don't get hasled as much except for the major streets. I think my day pack gave me away that I'm a tourist..and perhaps my big nonasian eyes too! lol Who knows...
As Eva said...this place speak great English. I think we stopped trying Mandarin cause we actually get treated well when we speak English though it can be frustrating when you want something. For example...we went to a hotpot place yesterday...they call it "Mutton." And this guy was like would you like Mutton and we're like a what?! And how do we just get veggies as he mentioned that veggies were free...we're like where's the other stuff...meat? Tofu? eh? But we said yes and trusted him and it was soo good. We have to try. And then this morning we went to McDs...yes we have to try the McDs man! The hashbrowns were like ours thanks god cause I love em so much...today we found out that they didn't serve breakfast after 10 am. They wake up super duper early. And so we got McChicken meal. Eva wanted to substitute her fries for corn (god knows y ... she must have had heat stroke from all the hot weather and climbing) and the manager helped us as he knew english..the cashier didn't and said like shit in mandarin or darn...or pretty much "these guys are trouble" and we told her we knew what she said and i think she was talked to cause Eva had to wait for the corn to be made and she came by with a huge smile! lol Foreigners are so treated well!
We went for congee tonight and this congee place right by the hotel. Was soo good! They had some scary things but we didn't order them. We're gonna head out to McDs later again so we can try these pies. The same as apple pies but get this...there taro, peas and pineapples! We're gonna order all of them and try them out and tell you guys how it tastes lol So far McDs has been good...except for the squats...there's so many...I'm kind of sick of them lol And I'm gonna try their sundaes...if I get you know what...well...that's my fault. I'm craving some good ice cream man!
It's been kind of dream like so far. Still don't feel like we're in China but like here for business or something...so weird...oh ya...Ryan...the dude we met...apparently most, if not, all spas here are like um brothels...there's like a spa in every hotel! And he said he friend went into one thinking it was a regular spa/massage lol And some of the hair salons too...go figure... and no ...we have no need lol
OK... almost time to go...Just want to say miss you guys!
