I was in Mainz for a 2 week course with the Evolanguage school there. It has been only a few days at the school and I very much enjoyed each and every class. The teachers are wonderful and patient. There are 2 teachers. They both have different ways of teaching that compliment very well with one another.
One concentrates more on grammar paired up mostly with listening and speaking. The other focuses on grammar with vocabulary. Both classes are completely in German where even if one does not know a meaning of a word, the teacher will describe it in German with gestures. Most of the time, the class will get it. There are times where English would be used to explain it. Either way, the teachers provide a supportive environment where trying and getting things incorrect is just AOK.
The rest of the class (students) are just as wonderful. We are a class of 6. I am happy that we are a small group. The group consists of all levels of A (A1-A2) and are multi-cultured. There are 2 students from Bangladesh, 1 from Israel, 1 from Bulgaria and 1 from Brazil. Most of them will be taking the 4 week course or more. I think I am the only one doing a 2 week course. Again, it is a supportive environment where we help each other out and are able to laugh WITH one another. I admit that I am self-conscious when it comes to learning in a class but I have not once felt I was any better or worse than anyone else in the course and I am willing to try without fear of getting things wrong.
I don't usually promote anything unless it has worked well for me and I think this school was a good choice for me as it catered to the way I learn and 3 hours a day of German goes by so fast! By the end of day 1, I was already thinking of going to them again in the future. They also offer it in other languages like English, Spanish, and Russian.
