We slept in today til about 11am Peru time. We were thinking that we would take the Nasca tour but both Eva and I just could not get out of bed. I think it's just my body needing it's sleep as I haven't slept enough the past 2 weeks and with more trekking in the near future, it was best that we listen to our bodies. We were so tired we slept through all the noise that went on here last night and first thing in the morning. The entertainment of morning was the parrot.
There is a pet parrot in the grounds and he is just the funniest little thing. He didn't say much when we arrived last nite but this morning you hear "HaHa" and "Ha." At first I thought it was some guy with a bland laugh but realized later it was the parrot immitating all the laughter around the pool outside. Later, this kid was yelling for his mom, "mama ... mama!" All you heard was him calling out for like 5-10 minutes. And then the parrot did the same thing! We had a good laugh about that one.
We walked about for a while in the hot sun but it was too hot to stay out and you know what happens during the hot weather - you get sleepy! We did get some pizza to eat. It wasn't bad and then headed back until our sandboarding tour.
So 3 dunebuggies went to the dunes. It was crazy going up and down the dunes and the driver is here for your entertainment so he really speeds up when he approaches each tips of each dune. He thrived on our screams! We went on 5 dunes altogether and started with the smallest one which was still terrifying! I've never been snowboarding and when you see them going head first on your stomach you ask yourself, "is that safer than being on your feet?" I waited til I felt like I was ready to go. I saw Eva and this other girl go down on their feet and didn't move much which left the only option - head first on your stomach. I was so nervous! But once you get through and you hold on as though your life depended on your grip... it was pretty darn fun!
The 2nd run was a bit intimidating for most of us... when I say most of us I mean the girls. This one had a hill or 2 to go on and much steeper than the first. Nonetheless, you gotta do it! You're here for the experience. It was again fun but I wiped out at the end when I hit 2 small bumps one after the other and lost my grip. At that time I just saw the tiny scraps on my forearm, elbow and the big ass one on my thigh. The latter hurt the most. But as we continued to do more sandboarding, the elbow swelled and i must have landed on it wrong when I wiped out. I was hoping to be injury free this trip. And this time, Eva may have to tear her PJs for me to return the favour I did when she sprained her ankle in China lol
Anyways, Eva came down for the first time on her stomach on the 2nd dune and screamed all the way down. Made us all laugh. And was nicknamed "The Screamer." :)
The 3rd dune wasn't as bad as the 2nd. it was just a steep one going straight down. The boys who wanted more of a challenge took the sides where there were more bumps or was extra steep. The 4th was interesting ... we had to go over 3 small hilly sand dunes and it wasn't to bad. The last one ... well it was 2 hills but huge! I had to pass that one ... by that time my elbows was giving out and I could not bend it enough to grip it and still get to the end safe and sound so I was the lone person who opted out. Eva though...she did good! I got a video of it since I couldn't do it.
It was nice to see the sunset at the dunes. If you ever take the tour, take it in the evening around 4 pm. You won't regret it.
I took some videos of the sandboarding adventure and will have to find another time to put them up :)
